Bristol-Myers Squibb has been named in a $200,000 class action lawsuit in Canada for allegedly failing to warn patients of the risks of using its popular antibiotic, Tequin. The suit argues that the company did not properly inform one of the plaintiffs, Alban Conlon, and physicians about Tequin’s side effects.

A new study has found that older patients taking the antibiotic Tequin tend to suffer life-threatening changes in blood sugar levels. The research, conducted at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Toronto, is due to appear in the March 30 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
FDA warns diabetics about Tequin side effects
The Food and Drug Administration has warned diabetic patients taking Tequin about the potential health risks posed by the antibiotic. It says that diabetic patients are especially vulnerable to two of Tequin’s most dangerous side effects: hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).
