Bayer announces plan to completely pull Trasylol from the market

Bayer AG says that it will completely remove all remaining supplies of its heart surgery drug Trasylol from the U.S. market. The decision to issue the Trasylol recall was made following the publication of a new study which found that the drug could significantly increase a patient’s risk of death compared with two cheaper alternatives.

Scientist blames as many as 22,000 deaths on Trasylol

The Food and Drug Administration says that it will review the safety of a leading heart surgery drug after a major drug trial showed an increased risk of death among patients. Bayer was forced to halt its 3,000 patient study of the heart surgery drug Trasylol after researchers noticed a greater risk of death among patients taking the drug than with two other common anti-clotting drugs used during heart surgery.

Woman files suit against Bayer over Trasylol injuries

A woman has filed suit in U.S. District Court in Tennessee against Bayer Corporation and its parent company, Bayer AG. When Ada M. Williams underwent open-heart surgery, was given Trasylol to limit excessive bleeding. This drug is made and sold by Bayer, but its side effects—not to mention its exorbitant cost—have left the pharmaceutical giant open to criticism and lawsuits like this one.
