Settlement reached in 30 Ortho Evra lawsuits

Johnson & Johnson has reached a settlement with about 30 women who filed Ortho Evra lawsuits against the company. The women alleged that the Ortho Evra patch caused them to develop blood clots, which can lead to serious injury or even death. The financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Ortho Evra patch warning issued by manufacturer
Ortho-McNeil, maker of the Ortho Evra patch, say that its users are exposed to a much higher dose of estrogen than are users of birth control pills. The company says that this increased exposure raises the risk of Ortho Evra side effects, such as blood clots, heart attack or stroke.
