Lawsuit filed in morphine death of nursing home patient
The family of a 79-year old Washington woman has filed a lawsuit against the nursing home where she died from acute morphine poisoning in 2004. Relatives of Florence Pierpoint allege that the Nisqually Valley Care Center failed to follow doctors orders in administering morphine to manage her pain and gave her too much of the drug, leading to an overdose. A medical examiner later ruled Pierpoint’s death to be a homicide.
Nursing home abuse lawsuit filed in Chicago
A Chicago woman has filed a nursing home abuse lawsuit against a center where she was treated for two months. Rose Capriotti alleges that during her stay at the Prairie Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, she was neglected, causing her to suffer a head injury and severe bedsores.
NY nursing home fined daily for violations
A nursing home in upstate New York is being fined daily by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for violations by its staff. The Centers say that the Lewis County Nursing Facility has failed to implement abuse policies to protect mentally ill residents and to investigate several incidents of inappropriate sexual behavior by patients. The agency issued its findings in a report dated November 17 after conducting an inspection of the facility last month.
