GranuFlo and NaturaLyte Strokes

GranuFlo and NaturaLyte have been linked to an increased risk of stroke when used the during dialysis treatment of patients with high bicarbonate levels.

Strokes occur when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, preventing the brain from getting the oxygen and blood it needs to function. Strokes can result in permanent brain damage, impaired speech and loss of mobility.

In March 2012, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a GranuFlo and NaturaLyte recall after Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) sent an internal memo highlighting the increased risk of stroke and heart attack caused by their products.

GranuFlo and NaturaLyte side effects also include heart attack, low blood pressure (hypotension), myocardial infarction, metabolic alkalosis, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
