Crestor and Diabetes
Patients who take Crestor or other statin drugs to lower cholesterol may be at an increased risk of developing diabetes. According to a 2010 study published in The Lancet, individuals who took statins including Crestor were more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than patients who were not treated with the drugs.
In response to the Lancet study about the link between Crestor and diabetes, the Food and Drug Administration ordered the drug’s manufacturer to add information about the risk of diabetes to the Crestor warning label.
Crestor has also been linked to an increased risk of cardiomyopathy and kidney failure. Some experts have expressed surprise that after years on the market and millions of prescriptions filled, they are only now beginning to learn about some of the side effects of Crestor. But despite these risks, the FDA has not announced any plans to issue a recall of the drug.
If you or a loved one used Crestor and were diagnosed with diabetes or other side effects, including cardiomyopathy or kidney problems, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit.
