Type 2 diabetes patients are filing lawsuits after Byetta injections were linked to life-threatening side effects including pancreatic and thyroid cancer. Byetta injections are used to increase the efficiency of insulin and to regulate high blood sugar levels.
In October 2007 the FDA issued a warning that Byetta injections can increase the risk of pancreatic complications. The warning occurred after the FDA received over 30 reports of Byetta users being diagnosed with acute pancreatis.
A 2011 study published in the medical journal Gastroenterology found that Byetta users face a 6 times greater risk of developing pancreatic cancer than patients using other diabetes medications. The study also found that pancreatic cancer was more commonly reported amont patients taking Byetta compared to those taking other diabetes medications.
If you or a loved one were diagnosed with pancreatic or thyroid cancer after receiving Byetta injections during treatment for diabetes, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit.
